Planning notes / Storage

Put the everyday within reach.

Useful storage begins with the things you actually own and the order in which you use them.

01

Group by routine.

Make separate lists for cooking, preparation, serving and cleaning. Then distinguish daily items from occasional ones. This gives a storage discussion more direction than starting with a catalogue of mechanisms.

02

Give difficult items a name.

Large cookware, small appliances, bulk provisions and rarely used serving dishes can be easy to forget. Bring their approximate dimensions into the conversation, especially when an item has an unusual shape.

03

Try the movement.

Imagine opening the fridge, loading the dishwasher or reaching into a corner while another person is in the room. Discuss the clearance and access before deciding where a cabinet or mechanism should go.

04

Use accessories with a purpose.

A pull-out or organiser should solve a particular access or storage need. Ask to see how it works and compare the usable space, care and replacement considerations alongside the price.

Make it yours.

Tell us about the room, the way you use it and what you would like to change.
