Materials & details / Choose with understanding
Know what sits behind the finish.
Two kitchens can look similar in a photograph and have very different specifications. Ask what each component is, how it will be used and what care it needs.
Texture. Tone. Everyday touch.
A little warmth.
A lot of character.
Explore the feel of wood-inspired finishes alongside the practical decisions: the cabinet beneath, the edges, the hardware and the care it needs.
Quiet detail.
A natural focal point.
A stone-inspired surface changes the feeling of the room. Ask about the actual worktop material, edges, joints, care and installation before choosing.
Colour with
room to breathe.
Try colour against the room’s light and adjoining finishes. Compare physical samples before deciding on the final product and shade.
Surface illustrations for exploring character. They are not product samples or a live finish catalogue.
01
The cabinet is more than its front.
Separate the cabinet body from the shutter when comparing specifications. Ask for the exact material, grade and construction details, including what is proposed around the sink and other areas exposed to moisture. A broad label such as premium does not replace a written specification.
02
Choose a finish for everyday use.
Compare samples in person where possible. Look at colour, texture and edges, but also ask about cleaning, marks, repair options and care. Laminate and painted finishes can create different effects; the suitable choice depends on the product range and your priorities.
03
Open the drawer. Use the corner.
Hardware is something you experience repeatedly. Consider access, the items being stored and the load the fitting is designed to carry. Speciality mechanisms can be useful, but their value comes from solving a real problem in your kitchen.
- Ask for hardware makes and model references
- Compare useful access, not just the number of accessories
- Check adjustment, maintenance and replacement routes
- Keep warranty information with the final specification
04
Treat the worktop as a separate decision.
The worktop affects the look and use of the kitchen, but its material, fabrication, joints, cut-outs and installation need their own discussion. Confirm whether it is included in the kitchen quotation and who is responsible for measurement and fitting.
A little clarity
Before we begin.
Which material is best?
There is no useful answer without the exact product specification and intended use. Compare the construction, finish, care requirements and written warranty for the choices available to you.
Does water resistance mean waterproof?
No. Do not treat those terms as interchangeable. Ask what the supplier claims for the specific product and how joints, cut edges and plumbing areas should be protected and maintained.
Do all parts have the same warranty?
Not necessarily. Cabinetry, hardware, worktops and appliances may have different terms and providers. Ask for the applicable documents before ordering.
